A Classic Champagne and Gold Wedding at Virginia MOCA and Sacred Heart Catholic Church | Hampton Roads, VA
September is hands down my favorite month for weddings, as I think it’s the perfect middle ground of summer and fall. The weather has started to cool off from the extreme heat of August and the unbearable humidity is gone from the air, but the sun is still setting late, jackets are not yet needed, and the happiness that comes along with summer is slowly turning into excitement for fall - everyone is in a good mood. James and Haley’s wedding was on one of these perfect September days, and the weather and mood of the day reflected that. They’re a fun-loving couple that everyone wants to be around and it was obvious that their guests were so excited to get to celebrate them. These two are so incredibly cute together, with the same sense of humor and little mannerisms, and it was truly an honor to get to see their unbridled joy on such a big day in their lives.
Haley looked absolutely stunning in her sheer backed dress, and her incredible veil extended far beyond her train, giving her the most elegant air as she walked down the aisle at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. By the way, this church is GORGEOUS. I mean it - if you’re planning on getting married at a Catholic Church, choose this one!! The architecture is absolutely incredible, with a high dome, exposed wooden beams, painted arches and beautiful skylights which make the whole room glow.
Their reception was held at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), and it was honestly was one of the best receptions I’ve ever had the pleasure of shooting. Not only is MOCA a gorgeous venue, with vaulted ceilings, skylights, built in up-lighting, and string lights across the dance floor, they have live trees growing in the middle of the floor and it truly gives it a “bring the outdoors in” kind of feel. It was as if they shared their first dance under the stars and partied all night beneath a bright moon. The band they chose, Gentlemen and Their Lady, was incredibly talented. Their energy on stage was contagious and they kept the dance floor going all night long. At one point, the groomsmen lifted the couple up on their shoulders (you don’t want to miss those pictures!) and proceeded to toss Haley up into the air! The newlyweds later joined the band on stage to sing “Shout”, and to end the night, they participated in a New Orleans style second line, led by the band’s brass section, as all of the guests followed them outside to line up for a sparkler exit. Talk about a finale!! Enjoy my favorites from this beautiful day!!
How gorgeous are these invitations?! Well, the bride's mother, Dee, made them herself!!!
Ahhh, Haley you look gorgeous!!!

Haley switched to a flower crown of tiny white blooms and greenery for the reception. Once again, I'm obsessed.
GUYS! You two are seriously just so adorable!!
I don't usually cry during dances, but I definitely teared up during this one. Gil and Haley were just too sweet together!
Party time!!! The band absolutely killed it!!
James' contribution to the reception was the addition of the spotlit "V" on the wall - it made for some great photo ops!!
This was my kind of party!!!!
My first time seeing a second line at a wedding reception, and I am sincerely hoping it wont be the last! It was too much fun!
