A Classic Virginia Wedding at The College of William and Mary | Williamsburg, VA
Do you know what it means when you get married in a hurricane? It means that you've basically already won at life and that everything from here on out will be pretty easy (ok, maybe not quite easy, but you've definitely already weathered a huge storm together!). Scott and Liz deserve MAJOR props. I don't think I would be half as calm as they were if there was a hurricane on my wedding day - especially when the ceremony and reception were both supposed to be outside! A last minute change of plans moved the ceremony inside, but this couple still had their reception outside under a big tent – rain and all!
Scott and Liz wanted their wedding to be classically beautiful and centered around the theme of Virginia. They are both from the state, and they both attended William and Mary. The ceremony was held inside the Wren Building, the oldest college building in the country, which ended up being pretty cool because my sister was married there exactly 5 years ago to the day! It was serious déjà vu for me having been the maid of honor in the same room not that long ago, and also really fun because my sister was in attendance and my brother-in-law was one of Scott's groomsmen! I know it was special for them to get to celebrate their 5 year anniversary with close friends in the same spot where they got married :)
Liz chose timeless colors of cream bridesmaids dresses with gold accents and whites and natural greens for the bouquet – it came together so beautifully and went well with the groomsmen's navy blazers and khakis At the reception, they served Virginia ham, oysters, brunswick stew and a plethora of southern sides alongside a bourbon bar with local Virginia beers and wines. It was an old Virginia feel that I loved!!
Hurricane Matthew tried to put a huge damper on the day but instead just made for the most memorable wedding I've ever shot! The dance floor was never empty, glasses were always full and laughter was in abundance. This couple's friends adored them and threw off their shoes to dance in the mud! Not to mention we got to take some super romantic portraits in the rain!!! I hope you enjoy this old Virginia wedding as seen through my lens :)
The whole day had an air of elegance, starting with these timeless details!
Liz wore her mother's diamond necklace. I just love when different parts of the day have special significance!
The groom's sister hand painted the incredible invitation suite!
I LOVE capturing moments like these!!
Liz!!! You are stunning!!!
The flower girls' gifts were so incredibly sweet - embroidered handkerchiefs meant to be the "something old" on their own wedding days!
They also received disposable cameras which they, of course, put to use immediately!
Even though it was hurricane-ing outside, we had THE PERFECT room for portraits!! Look at that light!!! Such a GORGEOUS bride!!
Seriously, how cute are they?!
Mr. and Mrs. Foster, everyone!!!
The guys were SUCH good sports about cramming into this small space for pictures!
The only way to do bridal party pictures in the rain - matching umbrellas!!
These two ROCKED their portraits! We had limited time, it was HURRICANE-ING, we had to do all their pictures on one porch because of wind, and this couple still looks amazing!!!
Ahhh! I love this one!!
Just so sweet! I love everything about these two!
The president of William and Mary stopped by to offer his congratulations :)
These two are perfect!
I thought I was in heaven when I got into the reception tent - so. much. food. And so many details!!
Scott and Liz are huge Mint Julep fans and had a bourbon bar at the reception!
Favors for the guests were local, Virginia-grown apples!
We didn't exactly have a sunset, so we decided to do a little something different...
I'm pretty sure I gained a couple pounds from all the food that just kept coming out!!
Scott and Liz,
I sincerely loved being a part of your day – I felt like I was surrounded by family the whole time! Thank you for trusting me to capture your memories!
